Repairing a failed hair transplant

You would think that in 2013 all surgeons and or institutes are up to the highest possible level of ultra refined hair restoration?

Think again!

At Prohairclinic we typically perform Repair sessions about once a week.

The following case is quite representative of the problems caused by hair transplant teams with little or no experience in this field.

Typical Repair case

This patient from France has had a Strip surgery in 2012.
Unhappy with the results he turned to Prohairclinic (summer 2013) in order to perform a repair treatment.

Some information about the current problems:
  • His surgeon used FUT surgery for 500 grafts.
  • The angle of implantation varies and is in most places 90 degrees.
  • The hairline contains 2-3 hair grafts
  • The grafts where implanted in a unnatural pattern.
  • The density is extremely low, hence it looks fake.
  • There is a gap of the right side of about 1 cm between the implant area and the receding hairline
  • Probably larger instruments where used to make the recipient sites, the implant area is highly scarred.
2 hair grafts in hairline are NOT done (looks weird and unnatural)

A bald area was left untreated behind the implants

Extremely low density

It was decided to place 2000 FUE grafts into the problem areas at a density of about 30 grafts per cm2. We decided for a low density implantation in order to give maximal survival chances for the grafts due to  scarring issues from his previous transplant. A second round will likely have to performed to increase density.
